Hello Everyone,
I´m wondering to add a surge/lightning protection on the sensor circuit (5Vdc) to protect the datalogger.
Has anyone any experience doing that?
Thanks!

Hi,
You can add simple TVS Diode between the rails and one diode between the sensor output and each rail. This should be a decent and low-cost surge protection.

Piotr

Hello Piotr,
If possible, could you please share with me a typical electronic diagram of the suggested solution?
And maybe the code of a TVS that you suggest for use together with Soilwatch sensor.
Thank you!

Hi,
Please see sample transient protection in the attached picture. I assumed that the sensor will be powered at 5V. Please note that added resistor R1 and capacitor C1 will increase startup time. You can adjust the values to suit your need. This is a simple circuit and it has its limitations.
More information you can find at

If you have some more questions I will try to help but I need to warn you. I am not an expert in ESD/Transient topic.
If you find some interesting materials about ESD/Transient protection please share here.
Kind regards,
Piotr
