Soilwatch10 ( 3V) and soil moisture vol%
« on: February 17, 2018, 12:25:02 PM »
Today I measured many samples with a WET Sensor and the SoilWatch10 to look for  a trendline in these measurements.
The samples were taken in a pot filled with the sand.

See the attached Excel file. The goal is : the usage of the SoilWatch on golf greens together with a Lorawan node.
please some comments.

It looks quite good. I am just wondering why on some occasions it was so much off. Could it be possibly measurement error? Maybe soil moisture wasn't uniform. I think WET sensor may have bigger measurement volume. Other than that it looks very well. Have you tried differently soils?

Thanks for sharing your results.

yes that are measurement mistakes. and you know when you bring water to the soil, it takes time.

The volume  (WET or SoilWatch10) is different, but the results should be more or less the same.
A soil is also never homogenous. I used the sand because this kind of soil constructions are used for football and golf.
At the moment the sensor is connected with a wireless Lorawan node since Sunday (Dragino mini dev). Every 5 minute I receive a measurement, see the attachment as an example.

Hi Gerard, thanks for sharing this useful data. Please note that there is an offset caused by the type of soil. You may want to calibrate the 0% mark using oven-dried soil from the golf course you intend to use this for.
How did you determine the vol% soil moisture steps in your spreadsheet? Best, Reinier.

Hi Reinier,

sorry for the late answer. I used a WET sensor. And the steps were made with many many measurements. But the formula is still raw and can be improved.

can you please share the math of the VWC you are using, what are your observasstions of this soilwatch 10 ? can we use it for a agricultural farm to precisely determine the water content present in the soil.

many thanks.

aylashiv,

Please see https://pino-tech.eu/forum/soilwatch-10/soil-specific-calibration/
This should help you calibrate your sensor.
